Our member-led sourcing approach
Vizient operates a clinically integrated, member-led sourcing process to ensure that collectively, our strategies, products, services, programmatic offerings and national contract portfolio provide members with industry-leading value.
Councils and expert panels
A key component of our competitive contracting process is the input we collect from members. While contracting councils provide input before, during and at the point of final approval of the contracting process, contracting expert panels provide market intelligence and member preference information prior to issuance of the request for proposal (RFP) and in advance of councils establishing the final evaluation criteria and weightings.
By giving as many members as possible a voice in Vizient contracting outcomes, we help ensure that our contracts meet the needs of the greatest majority of our members. The direction members provide through our councils and expert channels serves as the foundation for Vizient contracting and program decisions.

Opportunities to participate
Vizient conducts a focused recruitment campaign for contracting council and expert panel members. Learn more below about how you can participate.
Role of contracting councils
- Determine request for proposal (RFP) requirements and establish financial and nonfinancial decision criteria for bids
- Score bids and authorize awards based on council consensus and operate under the American Bar Association Model Procurement Code
- Operate with membership limited to 18 representatives per council
Current contracting councils:
If you possess knowledge and experience in any of the above areas and have been in your role with your current organization for a minimum of one year, we encourage you to apply for participation on a council. Members must have Vizient, Provista or Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) as their primary group purchasing organization (GPO). Individuals must commit to participate in 100 percent of monthly calls and periodic in-person meetings (as many as two annually, funded by Vizient). An individual may serve on no more than one council at a time, and each organization may have only one representative on the same council at a time. Terms of service are three years in duration.
